Steve Albini died this week

I learned about a session he did with Songs Ohia in 2003. For their album opener, Farewell Transmission, he got the band and vocals and string instruments and everything hooked up live, and most of the musicians had never played the song before and were winging it and the part at the end when the frontman says “Listen” was him literally cueing the band and what Steve got from that room, in a single take, was this perfect track:

Listening to that, I can’t help but think that was so good, why didn’t he go for a second take. it would have been so much better
